Sweden’s roundwood market showed mixed movements in the third quarter of 2025, according to data published by the Swedish Forest Agency on 18 December. The report highlights declining sawlog prices and rising pulpwood values, reflecting differing levels of demand across timber product segments.
The figures refer to calculated prices for harvesting assignments and do not represent spot market conditions. Nonetheless, they offer insight into the evolving dynamics in Sweden’s timber industry.
Sawlog Prices Decline Amid Slower Sawmill Demand
During Q3 2025, average calculated prices for sawlogs fell compared with the previous quarter. Prices for Scots pine sawlogs dropped by approximately 4% to SEK 987 per cubic metre solid volume under bark (m³sub), equivalent to EUR 86. Norway spruce sawlogs recorded a more modest decline of around 2%, reaching SEK 1,207/m³sub (EUR 105).
Earlier in the year, prices for Scots pine sawlogs were significantly lower—around EUR 67/m³—indicating that despite the recent downturn, current prices remain well above early 2025 levels.
Pulpwood Prices Continue Upward Trend
In contrast, pulpwood prices continued to rise during the quarter. Softwood pulpwood increased by approximately 2% to SEK 654/m³sub (EUR 57), while hardwood pulpwood climbed by around 4% to SEK 651/m³sub (EUR 57).
Combined, the total average pulpwood price reached SEK 683/m³sub (EUR 59), maintaining a steady upward trajectory over recent quarters.
Fuelwood Prices Remain Unchanged
Prices for fuelwood held steady during Q3 2025, with no quarter-on-quarter change. The average price remained at SEK 553/m³sub (EUR 48), indicating stable demand in this segment.
Delivered Timber Settlement Prices Weaken
Settlement prices for delivered timber, which reflect prices for timber sold and delivered, also declined during the period. Delivered sawlog prices fell by around 6%, while delivered pulpwood prices dropped by roughly 7%. These figures, like harvesting assignment prices, are backward-looking and do not capture spot market activity.
Quarterly Roundwood Price Development
The following table outlines calculated prices for various roundwood assortments from Q3 2024 to Q3 2025, based on data from the Swedish Forest Agency:

Key Takeaways
- Scots pine sawlogs declined by 4% to SEK 987/m³sub in Q3 2025.
- Norway spruce sawlogs decreased by 2% to SEK 1,207/m³sub.
- Softwood and hardwood pulpwood prices rose by 2% and 4%, respectively.
- Fuelwood prices were stable at SEK 553/m³sub.
- Delivered timber prices fell across both sawlogs and pulpwood segments.
Conclusion
The Q3 2025 roundwood price trends in Sweden underscore diverging demand patterns between sawlogs and pulpwood. While sawmill demand appears to be softening, fibre markets for pulp and paper maintain relative stability. These developments may continue to shape price movements into early 2026, pending further market shifts.
